The Holy Spirit, even among the believers, is the least talked about person of the Trinity. He is often misunderstood by those who are not spiritual. And many of those who do talk about Him or have ‘intimacy’ with Him, come to Him to be used by Him in ministry.
He wants to use us in ministry. Anyone who looks to Him for ministry will be used. But if it is just for that purpose, if you are seeking Him just for miracles, it is like a lid, it is the limit to where you can go. He can’t trust you with much because you will think it is you.
Imagine you have a friend who is a famous personality, say your friend is a successful cricketer or a Bollywood star in India. Every time you meet him, you take a selfie with him, not because you love him, but because you want to show the world who you know or every time he comes to your house you go and tell all your neighbours so they come knocking on your door asking him for autographs. Pretty soon that famous friend wouldn’t come to your house anymore and avoid meeting you because he would realise you are using friendship with him to gain favour with your neighbours and others. It is prostituting a relationship.
Develop an intimacy with the Holy Spirit without any agenda or motive. Lay it all down and trust Him. Learning that dependency, a pure relationship with the Holy Spirit, just friendship with Him will launch you in a greater dimension in the realm of miracles than if you were merely seeking Him for miracles.
A servant finds favour by what he does, a friend by the relationship. Servants are task-oriented. Their focus is on completing the given task, assignments, commands. A servant does not know what his master is doing as he has no access to the thoughts of the master. But a friend has a different motivation. The friend’s main goal is to know the heart of the friend, their thoughts, their ways and do accordingly. For him It is not about meeting a quota, it is about bringing a joy through friendship. Mike Bickle says there are two kinds of people in the world, in the body of Christ – there are lovers and there are workers. And lovers will always get more work done than the workers because the lovers tap into the heart and that is what is available in the dimension of intimacy and friendship.
Bible does not tell us friendship or fellowship with the Father or the Son. This does not mean that we are not supposed to walk in relationship with the Father or the Son, but it tells us that the Holy Spirit is available to us as friend, day-to-day, moment-by-moment. 2Cor 13:14. The word used is ‘koinonia’ which is communion, fellowship, partnership with the Holy Spirit.
