The news of turmoil and calamities are pouring in everyday: earthquakes, cyclone, war, ISIS, economic instability, stock market meltdown,… The prophets are also predicting major shifts and events in the near future.
Yet the Psalmist tells the righteous to rejoice in the Lord.
Psalm 33:16-19(NIV)
16 No king is saved by the size of his army;
no warrior escapes by his great strength.
17 A horse is a vain hope for deliverance;
despite all its great strength it cannot save.
18 But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him,
on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,
19 to deliver them from death
and keep them alive in famine.
Let our focus be not on the troubled water but on His unfailing love.
During the times of trouble, loss, stress, the manifested goodness of God is difficult to see. Let us meditate on His promises and confess His goodness to us. For He is unchanging, He is just. His goodness and mercy promises to follow us. So as we praise and worship Him, the yoke of the evil one will bow, bend and break in our lives.
May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you. (Psalm 33:22)
